Identity Crisis: What Does He Say?
Dear beautiful daughter of God, if you are in Christ, you are no longer who you were before meeting Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
A daughter of God who does not live her identity in Christ is experiencing an identity crisis (not knowing your sense of self in Christ or your place in the community ofbelievers). If my identity is in my family, friends, money, beauty, weight, sexuality, education, or social media likes/followers… what happens if I lose these? Do I cease to be?
The Truth About You
In Christ, you are who God says I am. The New Testament is full of beautiful scriptures telling us who we are as His new creations in Christ. Do you know who you are? Or are you still struggling with being anchored in your old identity (before Christ)?
Find Your Identity
In your time with the Lord, I want to motivate you to read the Book of Ephesians. It tells how the children of God are to live out their new identity in Christ – for example:
• I am a saint.
• I have been adopted as God’s child.
• I have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit.
• I am seated with Christ in the heavenly realm.
• I am God’s workmanship.
When we meet Christ, we still need to walk the road of healing because we are often stuck in the past because of hurt, trauma, and confusion. Based on our
Freedom from Past Identity
upbringing, messages we receive at home, school, relationships, media, and many other voices, we live our lives.
Unfortunately, these messages become clothes we put on and wear daily. First, we believed them, and now they are so part of our identity, we cannot move on free in Christ.
It is time to take off the old identity and put on a new one! Counseling from a biblical Counselor can help you move forward in the freedom of your new identity and heal from the remnants of your past identity. That is God’s desire for you, child of God!
